Where word of mouth happens

Word of Mouth happens when your business and brand are being spread by your current happy customers to your future customers on your behalf, for free.

According to a survey by Google and KellerFay, 82% of word of mouth happens face-to-face.

The other 18% come from interactions over the internet or elsewhere.

That means that more than 8 out of 10 referrals your business gets come from in-person, face-to-face interactions between your current and future customers.

Why does this matter?

If you care about maximizing Word of Mouth for your business, work with a niche that regularly meets face-to-face.

An excellent example of this is dentists, who have:

  •  Over a dozen mega-conferences per year, including the Greater New York Dental Meeting, which 9,692 dentists attend
  • The American Dental Association, which hosts regular meetings for its 161,000+ members

Questions to ponder:

  •  Do the customers I serve regularly meet in person?
  • What changes could I make in 2023 to take advantage of face-to-face word of mouth?
