3 Questions to Size Up a New Vertical

Let's say you have a vertical in mind to target.

First confirm they're a vertical you've got a positive track record with as customers.

Next, you'll want to ensure it's a vertical worth going after in the long run.

👉 Here are some questions to answer:

  • How many total businesses are in the vertical? (e.g., there are 188,074 dentists in the US)
  • Is the vertical expanding (e.g., CBD product manufacturing), shrinking (e.g. commercial printing), or staying flat?
  • Is this vertical relatively recession-proof? (e.g., plumbers)

If the target vertical has enough businesses, is expanding, and is recession-proof, it's likely worth pursuing.

Before you kick off a sales and marketing campaign targeting the new vertical, you'll want to interview your current customers.
